Frequently asked questions
How many hours a week is the legal work schedule in Colombia?
Under Law 2101 of 2021, the weekly schedule steps down over time: 46 hours through July 14, 2025, 44 hours from July 15, 2025 through July 14, 2026, and 42 hours from July 15, 2026 onward. The monthly hours divisor used to compute the hourly value is the weekly schedule times 5.
What surcharge is paid for working on a Sunday or holiday?
Under Law 2466 of 2025, the Sunday/holiday surcharge is 75% through June 30, 2025, rises to 80% starting July 1, 2025, to 90% starting July 1, 2026, and to 100% starting July 1, 2027. A holiday is calculated at the same rate as a Sunday.
What time does the night surcharge start?
The night surcharge starts at 9:00 PM through December 24, 2025, and at 7:00 PM from December 25, 2025 onward (Law 2466 of 2025). Daytime overtime pays an extra 25%, night overtime 75%, and the night surcharge within the schedule 35%; Sunday/holiday surcharges add to these percentages.
What is the difference between RDD/RDN and HEDD/HEND?
RDD and RDN are Sunday or holiday hours WITHIN the ordinary schedule, so they only pay the surcharge; HEDD and HEND are Sunday or holiday hours that exceed the schedule, so they pay the full 100% of the hour plus the overtime surcharge (25% daytime or 75% nighttime) and the Sunday or holiday surcharge. Compensatory rest is not calculated here, and the monthly hours divisor corresponds to the maximum legal schedule — a shorter agreed schedule gives a different hourly value.
Why might this calculator give a different value than my payroll provider?
This calculator follows the law in effect on the exact date you pick — the schedule, the Sunday/holiday surcharge and the night hours all change over time. Some payroll systems use one fixed approximate value for an entire year instead of applying each change on its real date.
