Frequently asked questions
What is the transportation allowance and when does it apply?
It is an amount set every year by decree for employees earning up to 2 times the minimum wage (SMMLV); anyone earning more does not receive it, and this calculator shows it as zero with that reason.
How are health and pension contributions calculated?
Health and pension are each contributed at 4% of the contribution base income (IBC), which is the salary with a floor of 1x the minimum wage and a ceiling of 25x.
What is the Pension Solidarity Fund (FSP) and when is it charged?
It is an additional contribution that starts once the IBC reaches 4x the minimum wage: 1.0% from 4x up to but not including 16x; 1.2% from 16x through 17x; 1.4% above 17x through 18x; 1.6% through 19x; 1.8% through 20x; and 2.0% above 20x (Decreto 1833 of 2016). Exactly 16x already pays 1.2%; exactly 17x, 18x, 19x or 20x stay in the lower bracket, per the legal text.
What does this net pay calculation NOT include?
It does not calculate withholding tax (it only flags when it might apply), nor does it cover integral salary (salario integral), apprentices in the study phase, service-contract workers, or part-time schedules — each has its own rules that differ from an ordinary full-time salary.
Why might the 2026 minimum wage change?
The 2026 minimum wage was set by a transitional decree while the Council of State rules on a nullity claim against the original decree; if the ruling changes the value, this calculator will be updated to reflect it.
